To address the fragmented memories shaped within diverse cultural contexts, the artist folds, stitches, sutures, and twists photographic images—expanding the materiality of photography through sculptural interventions. Rho’s development begins with the 2017–2018 series Shapes of Memories. In this body of work, he repeatedly cuts and sutures fragments of memory, visualizing the structures of fracture and healing inherent to identity. His subsequent series Photogami treats photographic prints like fabric, folding and stitching the two-dimensional image to examine the fluid, unfixed nature of identity and temporality within cultural mobility. At the same time, Rho expands his visual language through Lynchian Forms (2018–2020), which engages with nonlinear temporal structures and narrative. The collapse of time found in David Lynch’s distorted cinematic universe resonates with the artist’s own experience of overlapping cultural timespaces, prompting a shift in his practice toward sculptural forms composed from sutured photographic fragments. In Oscillated and Escape to Ebon, Rho deepens his inquiry into cycles and return. He visualizes the intersection of natural and human temporalities and the inward journey that circles back to the depths of lived experience—densely extending the temporal and structural potential of the photographic medium. His most recent series Tidal connects the materiality of sutured images to the movement of the ocean and natural cycles, exploring the point where the perceptions of an individual shaped by multiple timespaces meet the rhythms of the natural world. Through forms that waver, overlap, and transform like waves, the series reinterprets the fluidity of identity and memory into new structures. Rho’s photographic experiments—transformation, shedding, suturing, and deconstruction—are not mere technical strategies but the process through which an individual shaped by layered cultural experiences reorganizes the structure of their own existence. Metamorphosis traces the arc of this continual transformation, posing profound questions about the boundaries and meanings of the timespace we inhabit.
